High School Magical (2023) Season 2 Episode 3 Love and Magic
Rosaline resumes Peace College as Joan seeks answer to her brother’s choice of Aisha as his vice. Meanwhile, Mickey is fazed with new conflicts as he deals with two love lives from his past who are both out to have him at every cost.
Concurrently, Annie might just be ready to witness a coup within her gangs of witches as they debate her lost viciousness and Ferocity as their leader.
Equally surprising on a different level is the amount of insecurities being vocalized by the Wildcats. Mind you, it’s a good surprise, as verbalizing and working out what’s wrong is healthy and often overlooked in youth-centric media. (I just sounded like Bowen Yang claiming to read theory…my bad.)
The biggest plot moment of the episode is the news that Gina still is into Ricky. I know, it’s a lot to deal with. They confide in each other over their worries about everything, but the mood and tone is very much not that of friends. It was…lovely. I would even argue it crossed over into lovey-dovey. It was almost as lovey-dovey as Tony and Maria in Ivo van Hove’s West Side Story.
Extra Credit:
- Gina receives chocolates on her doorstep and texts Ricky a thank you message…but then realizes they were from her mom. Y’all, she went and started something! EEK.
- Carlos and Seb remain the greatest couple to ever happen in media and Seb’s sweet “home-grown” gift made me emotional. I just want a Seb of my own!
- Big Red and Ashlyn slowly are becoming the most perfect support system for each other. Their relationship is quintessential high school, where the cuteness and awkwardness coexist until love outweighs them both. We’re still in the early phases, but the dream sequence end credits are reason to believe they’ll be around for a while.
- Miss Jenn inviting Mr M to dinner…to then go hit on Ricky’s dad?! I would bet money that she was in Greek life.
- Lily is…a monster? Her threats and announced move to North High are Hitchcockian. I’m keeping my eye on her, especially near any showers…
- The biggest and most essential take away from the episode (A good one, but not eventful) is Ricky and Nini’s exceptional duet. Without a doubt my favorite song from the series thus far. We just keep winning!
