On the third day of the Super League there is a duel between BSC Young Boys 1898 and FC Winterthur. The Young Boys have taken four points from the first two games of the new season and are fourth in the Super League. After the blunder against FC Yverdon Sports, the reigning champions will of course want a sign to start the season in a positive way.

With three goals conceded in the first two games, Raphael Wicky’s team was surprisingly vulnerable. The exact reason for this has not yet been found, because apart from the departure of Cedric Zesiger, the Bern back team stayed together through the summer. During the pre-season, the Young Boys had the best defense in the Super League . There really wasn’t much of that in the first two games.
Winterthur – Statistics & current form
Winterthur took just one point from the first two games and is eleventh in the Super League. So the new season starts where the previous season left off. In the 2022/23 season, FCW narrowly escaped relegation to the Challenger League.
That’s why Patrick Framework’s team is one of the relegation candidates this season and is therefore facing a very difficult season. The club will probably fight for relegation together with FC Yverdon Sports and FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy.
Winterthur is weak away from home
FCW ended the 22/23 season in last place in the away table and only scored 13 points from 18 games. The team from Winterthur scored 17 goals, but also conceded 34 goals. Two of the three away wins were bagged by the red and white team from Sion and should therefore not be overestimated. A point win against the reigning champions seems unlikely.

Defensively second rate
The underdog not only had the weakest offensive in the league, but also the second weakest defense in the Super League, conceding 66 goals in 36 league games . You could see a lot of that in the game against FC Basel, because Patrick Framework’s back team seemed completely overwhelmed at times. Winterthur will therefore hardly keep a clean slate against Switzerland’s strongest offensive and should be careful not to go under completely.
