Years have passed since we last saw Maggie and Negan and they must now form a tenuous alliance in order to accomplish a dangerous mission. Maggie and Negan journey to the island of Manhattan, which, having been isolated since the beginning of the walker apocalypse, has developed its own unique threats. While in the city, Maggie and Negan encounter native New Yorkers, evade a marshal with a troubled past, and hunt down a notorious killer. But as the pair moves deeper into the gritty depths of the walker-infested city, it becomes apparent that the traumas of their tumultuous past may prove just as great a threat as the dangers of the present.”
Casting
On April 28, 2022, it was announced that Gaius Charles was cast as a lead opposite Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the role of Perlie Armstrong.During San Diego Comic Con 2022, Scott Gimple revealed the casting of Jonathan Higginbotham (Tommaso), Karina Ortiz (Amaia), Mahina Napoleon (Ginny) and Željko Ivanek (“The Croat”).
Filming
Filming for this season began in July of 2022. Principal photography is set to take place in Manhattan, New York, while studio filming will commence in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
- This season will take place in the fifteenth year of the apocalypse and feature an overrun Manhattan, New York, that has since been dominated by a one million walker herd that accumulated when the island’s bridges and tunnels were destroyed by the United States government in an effort to contain the outbreak
- According to Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan Smith), this season takes place “a couple years” following the events of “Rest in Peace”, which concluded amid the thirteenth year of the outbreak.
