Wolves vs Liverpool’s match started with full attacking forces.
Really poor from Joel Matip there who allowed Matheus Nunes in after dawdling on the ball.
Alisson Becker bailed him out with a good save. Meanwhile, down the other end, Alexander-Arnold flashes one over the bar from a decent angle.
Both Wolves lads respond to treatment and come back on. Jose Sa gives Liverpool a sniff with a shanked kick but heclears up his won mess by coming out to claim the cross.
Naby Keita with his third weak effort of the game. Strikes a harmless left-footed effort wide of Jose Sa’s goal. Cody Gakpo has barely had a kick out on that left side either save for one cros.
Blimey. It’s like the end of Platoon out there with Lemina and Neves both down and writhing, both hurt by Thiago.
Nunes had his ankle clipped and Lemina was winded by Thiago’s arm hitting him in the solar plexus as he tried to wriggle past.
Gakpo beats Hwang with a dummy and some fancy footwork, twisting his blood. So Hawng has a swipe at his ankles as he made his getaway.
Hwang seems to have twanged his hamstring which becomes apparent when he gives chase to Nunes’ pass from Liverpool’s wasted free-kick.
Wolves have the chance to sit in now and wait for counter-attacks. And they also have the fact that their cushion is a two-goal one.
Liverpool will have to show some real strength of character to get back into this but we’ve said that much about them this season.
A Joel Matip own goal after six minutes was worsened by Craig Dawson’s goal on debut for Wolves in the 12th minute, and Liverpool could not break down Julen Lopetegui’s defense despite Mohamed Salah’s best efforts.
Adama Traore tortured Liverpool’s lifeless defense to set up Ruben Neves’s 71st-minute goal, and the Molineux crowd was Ole-ing every last touch of a stoppage-time possession in utterly unpredictable fashion.
The expected goals total was kinder to Liverpool, but that and the club’s current situation count for little more than a handshake; The Reds now sit 10 points outside the top four, the 10 next to their name wild given their status under Jurgen Klopp (even considered their terrible injury list).
Wolves entered the day in the bottom three and exits it in 15th with 20 points. That’s two points clear of the bottom three but the upward trajectory is real.
