Real Sociedad vs Manchester United’s match started with full attacking forces.
Martinez comes through the back of Mendez, and it looks like he’ll go into the book. Not yet, though, because he’s taken a whack on the jaw as the momentum took him into his opponent. On comes the physio.
Looks like Rashford is playing behind Ronaldo in a CAM role, and Casemiro is dropping into the back four as United push for the second.
Martinez goes down holding his face and the referee has a yellow card in his hand ready to show the Argentinian after a particularly aggressive bit of defending.
Rashford makes an instant impact… he’s played through down the left channel, almost gets past his man, but wins a corner anyway for his efforts.
Van de Beek finds Ronaldo out on the left and he then feeds it to Shaw on the overlap, but his cross finds only blue-and-white.
Sociedad are quick to fling it forward on the counter, with United leaving only two back at times as they gamble in search of that second goal.
Man United make a double change, sending on McTominay and Rashford for Lindelof and Van de Beek. For now, it looks as though Casemiro will drop back into defence alongside Martinez.
Gorosabel’s having some joy down Sociedad’s right… he’s popped a couple into the six-yard box, but Manchester United defend resolutely, heading away with conviction.
Marin crosses from the right. Casemiro stops Fernandez connecting at the far stick, but can’t clear. The ball’s worked wide right again, from where Gorosabel sends in another cross. This one’s cleared with more purpose.
