Incredible! Teenage girl sleeps with python in Anambra
A teenage girl, Chinasa (not real name), has reportedly slept with a python (Eke-Idemili) that found its way into children’s room and crawled unto her bed while she was fast asleep in her family home at Ikenga Village in Ogidi, Idemili North local government area of Anambra state.
Orient Weekend reliably gathered from a family source that Chinasa woke up in the early hours of last Tuesday to behold a huge python resting beside her on the iron spring bed. She quickly raised alarm and fled the scene the moment she realised the presence of the revered snake.
“As she was sleeping, she felt her body was touching a living object that occasionally made some movements under her mattress. She said she, in turn, subconsciously used her body to press hard on the moving object she was feeling, just to stop the occasional movement believing it was not a harmful situation”, the source told Orient Weekend.
According to him, as the dramatic twists and turns of the sleeping session with the reptile reached a disturbing stage, the teenager was forced to wake up to find out what was amiss.
“As she stood up from the bed and removed the mattress, she saw a python (eke Idemili) that curled itself under the mattress and she immediately shouted and ran to her parents’ room who immediately rushed to the children’s apartment to see the python still rooted at the spot.
It was gathered that Chinasa’s parents, after discovering the python raised alarm, lamenting that the mystery snake must have been sent to their daughter by their enemies to harm her.
However, some of the neighbours who rushed to the scene, tried to reassure the apprehensive couple that the python may not have been sent to the family to do any harm as it was not uncommon to see such pythons in people’s houses in Ogidi and the whole of the Idemili area of Anambra state.
“It is common to see pythons in peoples’ houses in Ogidi and it is forbidden to kill it”, disclosed a neighbour who is an Ogidi indigene.
“It is the goddess of the community and if you kill it, you will bury it like you do to human beings” said another person who was among those that came to have a glimpse of the python.
A former president general of Ikenga Ogidi Family Union, Rev. Emmanuel Obianagha, while reacting to the incident, told Orient Weekend that there was no need for parents of the girl to panic over their daughter sharing bed with a python as it was a common phenomenon in communities that forbid killing such reptiles.
“When I was young, a python slept with me in my bed and when I touched it, I quickly ran out and my parents came and removed it. Pythons do not bite. Let the parents of the girl not think somebody sent it to harm their daughter. The python may have come into the room through a hole or they kept the door open”, he explained further.
According to him communities in Idemili North and South local government areas and some others forbid killing such reptiles because they are not harmful. “There are so many of them in those areas and are often found in cool places in one’s house without harming such person” he added further.
Orient Weekend was reliably informed that, as the debate raged, the python remained unmoved at the spot, until one of the sympathisers believed to be an indigene ordered the snake to leave the facility before she would invite a cleric to deal with it. In obedience, it crawled out into a nearby bush.
