John Okonkwo Chukwu: Meet The Creative Editor Behind Some Of The Nigerian Trending Films.
It is very difficult to argue that the best – or at least the most tangible – creative people are the editors.
It the job of a film editor to digest every second of footage a director captures – an ever-growing duration in the digital age – before whittling it down and piecing it together into a flowing, coherent story. At its best, the art of editing should be unnoticeable. Film editing is a very labor intensive job in movie making with a certain amount of stress with having to meet a deadline. Who is John Chukwu Okonkwo?
Best known by the Name Nature Finger, John is a Nigerian film editor, Cinematographer and colourist. He started his career in 2012 as an artist – a Fine and applied artist – during which he experimented on different art materials and did some notable works of some Nigerian celebrities.
He explored the use of graphite/color pencils on glossy paper A4 peppers and cardboard sheets also executed some works on Canvas with oil paint.
His filmmaking career started in 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria, where he shot comedy skits for his friends until he moved to Awka in 2019.
Moving to the capital city of Anambra state, Nigeria gave a new turn to his career as a filmmaker. He started experimenting on several gadgets and equipments.
After a year of shooting several weddings, event/shows, movies, he started a journey towards becoming a professional film editor.
Upon graduation from learning editing, he shuttled between Abuja and Awka for jobs. John works mostly as a “ghost editor” – freelancing on movies editing that is credited to someone else. He is behind a number of big commercial films on Cinemas and cable television especially Rok Tv, and African Magic Family
Some of his credited works are: YOURS TRULY EX (2020), DEAD FLOWER ( 2021), THIS IS MY STORY (2020), HUSTLER (2021), LIKE FILTERED WATER SEASON 1 (2021).
