RB Leipzig vs Tottenham: Team News, Head To Head, Likely Lineups & Prediction

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Germany as RB Leipzig host the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.

The English side have to overturn a 1-0 deficit after Timo Werner’s second-half penalty put Leipzig ahead in the tie.

Spurs reached last season’s final under previous boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Team News

Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed Timo Werner should be fit to start after he was injured at the weekend during his side’s 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg as the striker was rested from the starting line-up for that game but was introduced as a 60th-minute substitute.

Ibrahim Konate and Kevin Kampl are still unavailable for Leipzig through injury, but Willi Orban made the bench against Wolfsburg on Saturday having recovered from knee surgery.

In-demand centre-back Dayot Upamecano missed the first leg through suspension but should start on Tuesday as on-loan Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu is struggling with a back problem.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ injury nightmare continues with the news that Steven Bergwijn is out for an “extended period” with a sprained ankle. The Dutch winger, who joined Spurs from PSV for £25m in January, suffered the injury in the closing stages of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

It is a major blow for Jose Mourinho who has lost another attacking option, with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son still in the treatment room, while midfielder Moussa Sissoko has been absent since January 1.

Head to Head Record
The two teams have only faced each other once in their history and that was the first leg in the Champions League last month. Not much history, eh.

Recent Form

It’s safe to say that Tottenham have been struggling – they haven’t won in their last five games, their FA Cup exit to Norwich City was particularly hard-hitting.

Conversely, RB Leipzig are playing well and winning with three wins and two draws in their last five games. They will be confident of continuing that form on Tuesday night.

Leipzig possible starting lineup: Gulacsi; Klostermann, Upamecano, Halstenberg; Mukiele, Laimer, Sabitzer, Angelino; Werner, Schick, Nkunku

Tottenham possible starting lineup: Lloris; Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen; Lamela, Winks, Lo Celso, Sessegnon; Alli, Lucas

Prediction: RB Leipzig 2-1 Tottenham (AGGREGATE: 3-1)
