City on the other hand will be looking to get back to winning form as they wait to see if Liverpool will falter this season to give them a glimmer of hope of defending the title.

Bright start by Arsenal and Gabriel Martinelli, who calls City keeper Ederson into early action. There didn’t appear to be a route to goal when Martinelli picked up the ball about 30 yards out but his persistence worked a shooting position and Ederson got down well to save.

But what a finish to admire – first time and into the top of the net with inch-perfect precision on the right foot. So many players would have skied that but the connection couldn’t have been sweeter.
