Native doctor dupes auto dealer N5m in Enugu

A spare parts dealer based in Aba, Abia state, Mr. Chinonso Okoronkwo, is currently leaking his wounds after being made to part with N5, 300,000 by a  whom he had visited for solution to his dwindling economic fortunes.

Mr. Okoronkwo, a native of Umunankwo village, Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state, had traveled to Enugu from Aba on the advice of his brother, identified as Onyebuchi Okoronkwo after he had complained of a strange damage of windscreens in his shop which resulted in his sudden economic downturn.

On getting to Enugu, his brother led him to Amankanu-Amuri, where they met a native doctor identified as Uwabunkeonye Nwafor, popularly known as ‘Onyeze’, who, after some incantations, asked him to pay the sum of N150,000 to kick start the process of solving his financial problem, an amount he later borrowed from a fellow trader in Aba and paid.

On a later date, according to Mr. Okoronkwo, Onyeze began to communicate with the deities in the shrine only to explain later that the deities said that somebody will die in his family if he failled to pay the sum of N6,000,000. Mr Okoronkwo’s plea to pay N3,000,000 was rejected by Onyeze.

Okoronkwo said he was only able to raise N1,500,000 which he paid to Onyeze before his sister, who had been sick at the time died. He confronted Onyeze with the sad news of the demise of his sister even after making part of the payment but he was warned to pay up the balance or else, more persons will die in his family.

Mr. Okoronkwo, who was forced into a bond to pay up the remaining balance, quickly arranged with his relatives in the village and sold two plots of land for N2 million. He also got additional loan from his colleagues in Aba to make up a total of N5,300,000 which he paid to Onyeze.

After making the payment, every attempt he made to establish contact with Onyeze failed as his lines were not reachable. He was also forced to abandon his shop in Aba as a result of the heavy debt he has incurred in the process.

As a result, Mr. Okoronkwo, through his lawyer, Hon. Oforma Agbo, petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Adamu Muhammad,  over the incidence, demanding that the IG should help in seeing that justice is done.  He also reported the case to the traditional ruler of Amankanu-Amuri village, Igwe Linus Nwobodo, who is expected to help in tracking Onyeze with the hope that the money will be recovered.
