FG Declares October 1st Public Holiday

The federal government has declared Monday Oct.1 as to commemorate 58th Independence Anniversary.

The Minister of Interior, Retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by Dr Mohammed Umar the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.

Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary and urged them to sustain President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s efforts towards maintaining and strengthening the unity and peace of Nigeria.
He emphasised government’s commitment to promoting national unity, economic growth, social and political development based on democratic principles.

He said that in the past 58 years, Nigeria has made a lot of progress and positive impact, not only on the lives of its citizens, but also on infrastructural development as well as international relations.

Independence Day is an official national holiday in Nigeria, celebrated on the first of .

It marks Nigeria’s proclamation of independence from British rule on 1 October 1960.
