Police Sergeant Brutally Murdered By Gunmen In Imo State With His Rifle Stolen

Some have shot dead a police , Christian Nnamani, in Owerri, Imo . The hoodlums, who made away with the AK-47 belonging to the slain cop, were reported to have also shot a passerby.

According to Punch, the incident happened around 9pm on Tuesday at Control Post Roundabout, Owerri.
It was gathered that some police officers were on a patrol when the gunmen struck.

Confirming the incident during a telephone conversation with our correspondent, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said after killing the sergeant, the assailants fled with his rifle.

The police spokesperson said the passersby, who was hit by a bullet from the hoodlums, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.

Enwerem, a Superintendent of Police, said the police had commenced investigation into the incident, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, had ordered investigators to arrest the fleeing killers.

The police spokesperson said, “It is true; we lost a police sergeant last night (Tuesday). Sergeant Christian Nnamani, attached to Mobile Police 18, Owerri, was on a stop and search with his colleagues at Control Post junction, Owerri, when the incident happened.
“On sighting the sergeant, who was the last guard man, the hoodlums, who were in a green golf car, shot him dead and made away with his AK-47 rifle.
“A passerby was equally hit by bullets. The civilian was quickly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he is being treated.

“We are on the trail of the criminals. The state Commissioner of Police, who is pained by the death of the policeman, has ordered the tactical units of the command to go after the fleeing criminals. I assure you that we will get them.”
