WORLD CUP 2018: How Messi Missed A Clean Penalty ShootOut (WATCH VIDEO)

Lionel Messi MISSES penalty during Argentina World Cup clash with Iceland – making it four out of the last seven off target

Barcelona star saw his effort saved Hannes Halldorsson – Messi has now missed FOUR of his last seven penalties

LIONEL MESSI saw a penalty saved just hours after rival Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning hat-trick against Spain – meaning he’s now missed FOUR of his last seven.

The Argentina superstar stepped up against Iceland with the game tied at 1-1 – but hit a tame effort with Hannes Halldorsson easily palming away.

Despite his outrageous goal record, Messi is not the best from the penalty spot.

It was the fourth penalty Messi has missed out of his last seven attempts for club and country and his fifth out of the last ten.

In fact, over his career Messi has missed 24 of his 103 penalties, that’s a record of only 76.69 per cent.

Rival Ronaldo is more reliable from the spot, scoring 82.72 per cent of his efforts (88 scored from 106) – he’s also hit six in a row, including the one against Spain on Friday night.
