Senator Ali Wakili Dies At 58

Senator Ali Wakili, representing Bauchi south senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate, has reportedly passed away.

A Nigerian website, DAILY NIGERIAN, reports that the senator slumped at his Gwarimpa residence, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Saturday morning, March 17 and was rushed to Viewpoint Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Senator Wakili who was the Chairman Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation died at the age of fifty-eight (58).

Saleh Shehu Ashaka, a journalist with the Voice of America, (VOA), also announced the death of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Ashaka tweeted: ” Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihir-Raji’un! Senator Ali Wakil (Bauchi South) is Dead”.

Similarly, Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki also confirmed the demise of the Bauchi South lawmaker, noting that he was informed of Wakili’s death while on his way to “celebrate with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and family on their daughter’s wedding”.

Saraki furthered that he was on his way to the Wakili house to pay his respects to the family of the deceased.

The Senate President tweeted: “Enroute to celebrate with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and family on their daughter’s wedding, I just heard about the passing of my friend and colleague, Senator Ali Wakili.

“I am on my way to the Wakili house to pay my respects to his family. Inalilahi wa Ina Ilaehi Rajiun.

“It is the Almighty Allah (SWT) that gives life, and it is Him that takes it away. I pray that the Almighty Allah grants the dear departed Senator a place in Al Jannah Firdaus”, the Nigerian number three citizen wrote on the micro-blogging site.
