Ramaphosa is possibly one of the most respected and celebrated political leaders in RSA. He could be said to have been Mandela’s choice as the Deputy President, over Thabo Mbeki in 1994, but unfortunately, this was not to be. So Ramaphosa decided to temporarily venture into the Corporate world, where he formed his Holding Company- Shanduka Group, as Chairman. He invested and sat on numerous Boards of such companies like, Standard Bank, Alexander Forbes, Mining Companies, MTN, just to name a few.
Ramaphosa first came to prominence in the 1980s as general secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers and as a major force in the domestic struggle for political freedom. When Nelson Mandela was released from prison in February 1990, Ramaphosa was at the head of the reception committee that greeted him. As Secretary-General of the ANC after its unbanning, he re-established the liberation movement as a mass political party.
He is widely credited with playing a major role in the negotiations that led to the democratic settlement in South Africa and in devising the country’s new and Internationally renowned constitution.
Soon after this triumph, Ramaphosa left politics and became a very successful businessman.
Ramaphosa’s ascendancy, later today, as the 4th President of the RSA, is believed both at home and Internationally, shall usher in, a breath of fresh air in both the economic and political stability and prosperity of the country.
I, therefore, join millions of South Africans and other international well-wishers of South Africa; one of the leading countries in Africa, to wish Cyril Ramaphosa a very successful reign and to bring back South Africa into its deserved pride of place in the comity of Nations.
Long may you reign successfully, Comrade Ramaphosa as the President of the Republic of South Africa.
