“We all know the press is under siege these days, but we also know it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the truth that stops us turning a blind eye to intolerance and injustice.

“Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we have. I am inspired by the women who have felt strong and empowered enough to speak up and tell their personal stories.

“I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of assault and abuse. They’re the women whose names we’ll never know – the domestic workers, the farm workers, workers in factories.

“For too long women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak out against powerful men. But their time is up. Their time is up!

“I want all the girls watching this to know that a new day is on the horizon. And when that day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women and some pretty phenomenal men”, Winfrey said.
