Harry Kane surpassed Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record during Tottenham’s game against Southampton.

In the 21st minute, Kane steered home a header from close range.

The strike was significant as it was his 37th Premier League goal of 2017.

In doing so, he broke Shearer’s record of 36 – a milestone that had stood for 22 years and dates back to his time at Blackburn Rovers.

Kane had equalled Shearer’s feat last Saturday when he scored a hat-trick in his side’s 3-0 win away to Burnley.

Shearer paid tribute to Kane after his landmark goal.

He tweeted: “You’ve had a magnificent 2017 @HKane.

“You deserve to hold the record of most @premierleague goals in a calendar year.

“Well done and keep up the good work.”

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker was also quick to offer his congratulations.

He tweeted: “Congratulations to @HKane on breaking the record for most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year.”

Kane has now passed Lionel Messi’s Barcelona feat of 56 goals for club and country this year.

After Atletico Madrid’s win yesterday, Madrid know they need to match that today to keep up the pressure in the title race. They’re unbeaten in their last 15 LaLiga games (W10 D5), a run that goes back to the start of February, but they’ve drawn three of their previous five.

They face a Granada side that have lost their last two outings, but before that, Diego Martinez’s side came out on top against Barcelona with a 2-1 victory.

Zinedine Zidane makes three changes to his side after the draw with Sevilla last time out as he brings in Gutierrez, Park and Rodrygo. Kroos and Odriozola start on the bench and Marcelo is left out of the matchday squad.

Martinez makes four changes to the team that lost to Real Betis at the weekend. Silva is in goal, with Eteki, Vico and Molina also coming into the starting line-up. Escandell and Suarez drop to the bench, while Angel Montoro and Yangel Herrera miss out through injury.

United have lost just one of their last 15 home games against Liverpool in all competitions, and are unbeaten in their previous eight since a 0-3 loss in March 2014.

Solskjaer makes ten changes to his side from the defeat to Leicester, with Greenwood dropping to the bench this time around. Liverpool boss Klopp makes just one alteration to his starting XI, with Firmino coming in for Mane.

Police officers were injured during the clashes on May 2, but local forces and United have taken extra care to make sure that the game can go ahead as normal. Barriers were erected around Old Trafford earlier on Thursday, while Manchester United’s players have been inside the ground for several hours.

Liverpool’s squad made their way into the ground via a decoy coach, and thankfully the operation looks to have gone smoothly.

Barcelona have the chance to go top of the league with a win today, and come into this game having lost just one of their last six in all competitions (W4 D1), though they missed a big chance to leapfrog Atletico Madrid when they drew with the league leaders last time out.

They face a Levante side that are winless in their last five (D1 L4) and who are without a win at home since mid-March when they beat Valencia 1-0.

Barcelona have recorded the joint-most wins (22, level with Real Madrid) and most goals scored (86) of any side against Levante in LaLiga history.

Just the two changes by Ronald Koeman to his team after their draw with Atletico last time out. Araujo and Dembele both come into the side, with Mingueza and Dest starting on the bench.
